Start Your Morning with AWWC: Networking Breakfast

This breakfast is your chance to connect with other women across the work comp world in a setting designed for genuine relationships, not rushed hallway introductions. Over breakfast, you'll meet women from across the industry, from claims and clinical to broker and beyond, through structured small group networking and a fun icebreaker to get conversations going. Whether you're a regular at these events or joining for the first time, you'll find it easy to connect. The morning is built to do more than fill an hour. You'll have the chance to form smaller groups, organized by region, role, or shared interest, that keep connecting long after the conference ends. Foundations of Board Service: Understanding Board Roles, Responsibilities, and Types

This three-part Champion Members Only educational series is designed to help leaders build the knowledge, confidence, and strategic perspective needed to pursue and contribute to board service. Featuring insights from panelists Marques Torbert, Artemis Emslie, and Danielle Lisenbey, and hosted by Marijo Storment, the series will guide participants through a progressive board readiness journey, from understanding the fundamentals of board roles and responsibilities to positioning themselves as strong board candidates and contributing effectively in the boardroom. Each session pairs education with reflection and practical application to help participants strengthen their readiness for future board opportunities. Our first session introduces the essential foundations of board service, including the core role of a board of directors, the distinction between governance and management, and how boards function in practice. Participants will explore key areas of board oversight, including strategy, financial health, CEO evaluation, risk management, and stakeholder interests. The session will also compare nonprofit, for-profit, public, private, and advisory boards, helping participants evaluate which type of board opportunity may best align with their leadership experience, expertise, and goals.

Preparing for Board Service: Positioning Yourself as a Board Candidate

The session will also guide participants in shaping a compelling board narrative, preparing for board interviews, understanding common expectations, and assessing readiness gaps. Participants will leave with a stronger view of how to communicate their value and take focused next steps toward board service.

Effective Board Service in Practice: Governance, Dynamics, and Leadership in the Boardroom

Our final session moves from readiness to real-world boardroom practice. Participants will explore the governance responsibilities, fiduciary duties, board structures, and leadership behaviors that support effective board service. Topics include legal and ethical obligations, committee roles, financial oversight, CEO relationships, risk management, crisis response, and boardroom dynamics. This session will help participants understand how to contribute with confidence, exercise sound judgment, influence without authority, and strengthen trust, accountability, and effective decision-making in the boardroom.
